Mat Maitland: Music Work is now live on Volume and funding.
United Editions presents a new book celebrating the work of Mat Maitland, one of the leading forces in contemporary album cover design, gathering his diverse body of work together for the first time.
Over a long career, Maitland has created artwork for some of music’s most iconic names, including Michael Jackson, Prince, Beck, Lana Del Rey, Elton John, Goldfrapp, Basement Jaxx, Mika, The Rolling Stones and Mark Ronson.
His process spans high-concept thinking, art direction, photography, illustration, graphic design, collage and filmmaking, often with a touch of pop surrealism.
Each project is shown in painstaking detail. Mat tells the stories behind the work in his own words, alongside mock-ups and reference points that shaped the finished pieces. The book also features conversations with key collaborators, including Alison Goldfrapp.
