Take two because baby brain + screaming baby + technically being in an online court hearing at the same time meant I added a model I shouldn't have added 😂

Can I show that? CTF edition!

Breyer have released another lovely selection of 'toy' style models this year with synthetic manes and tails and cute playsets these models make brilliant toys for younger collectors, but can you show them?

Well the short answer is yes! The UK has a very unique and special division for models like this, CTF. CTF stands for Craft, Toy, Foundation and is a broad section that traditionally found the less realistic models being shown. However, the improvement in brands such as Schleich and CollectA and the introduction of more realistic craft models such as RubberNedz has now meant that the standard of these classes is extremely high. In fact it is arguably the most competitive division to show in in the UK, but that shouldn't deter you from having a go and, if you have one of these cute little gift sets, why not plop them into a CTF class?

At some shows CTF is split into plastic CTF and bendy CTF. This model would go into plastic CTF. Bendy CTF is for models made of latex/rubber such as Julips, Equorums and RubberNedz. It would usually also include 'proper' craft models such as felties. In plastic CTF you would see the more commercially produced models such as Schleich, CollectA and Mini Whinnies (as well as a tonne of other brands). This would be the perfect place for Tess and Birdie if you wanted to put them into the show ring.

And finally a top tip! If you are showing a model with a 'realistic' mane and tail, please make sure you've groomed them! If they are completely out of control and have awful bed head you can lightly dampen them and then wrap in cling film (biodegradable of course) in order to 'set' the mane and tail so they look nice for the show ring. Just like you need to dust your models, you must also groom those that need it! Nothing worse as a judge than seeing a horse that looks like it's been dragged through a hedge backwards because they owner hasn't bothered to grab a toothbrush and give them a little brush.

Do you own any of the Breyer Dapples/Ponies/Pony Gals models? I'd love to see some pictures below.

Have you always wanted to show your model horses but don't know where to start? Well Chestnut Ridge has some amazing guides on showing model horses, with everything from general overviews of the types of shows to guides on the terminology that you will see at shows.

This photo was taken at the Copperfox Tour 2016 a live show. Live shows are shows you attend in person to show your model horses. They will often have a variety of classes, some are specialist shows for just one type of model and others are more general with a real mix of entries.

This entry here is a performance entry. Performance classes are where horses are shown in tack to recreate how horses are used in the real world, such as this cutting entry here. In the UK riders are mandatory in performance entries so they will also need a rider/handler depending on your entry. As well as tack you may want to use props as well, such as the cows in this set up! You may also want to add a base, as shown here, to create realism. Along with your entry you will also create a little card to explain what is going on. For some shows that can be general, this may just say "cutting" but for others it may need to be more detailed. For example, you may want to be clear about the level and movement being performed for a dressage entry.

If you'd like to find out more about live showing then check out our guides here: https://chestnutridge.co.uk/pages/introduction-to-live-showing

And whilst we're here, why not show off some of your favourite performance entries below.

An Ode to Breyer

O my Breyer, my plastic horse
That stands so still upon my shelf
You bring me joy, you give me life
That I might have something so beautiful
So pure
That you are in my life
My Breyer that sits upon my shelf, coat shining in the morning light
My Breyer, that stands, strong and proud
You have my heart, my soul, my....

You’ve bloody fallen over again haven’t you, you stupid plastic horse, how are you so wobbly when you have four legs upon the ground?

Today we want to give a massive shout out to one of our favourite businesses who we have been using for years here at Chestnut Ridge.

If you're a regular customer then you will be familiar with the little cards you get with your order. You've probably got quite a little collection of horse pictures and will definitely be well on your way to collecting your stickers! You're probably also familiar with all the little stickers that we add to parcels or include with some orders.

Well all of these are amazingly well printed at Moo. We've been using Moo for years and the quality of their printing is just brilliant. They are cost effective, easy to use and we love what we get. Even when the text is super small such as in the Collect by Collection postcard, it comes out brilliantly.

If you'd also like to get some cute little things printed at Moo you can use our referral link here: https://refer.moo.com/catrionaburt5!336ac97e26!a?locale=en_GB

In the meantime I want to know....how close are you to completing a set of stickers?
