✨ The National Year of Reading in September ✨

Nearly 6 years ago, Becki Randall became an Independent Usborne Partner to get discounted books for her home-educated daughter. But then came Covid-19 and Becki's business really took off! 🌟

Here Becki shares with us the books which have made the biggest difference to her family and business Becki’s Blossoming Books - In Partnership with Usborne:

‘‘The books that have honestly helped us so much are the Billy and the Mini Monsters books. My daughter is a very reluctant reader and these books saved us; she absolutely loves them. I always recommend them at events and have one family who whenever they see me ask if there’s a new Billy book out. I’ve also had mum’s thanking me for recommending Billy as their child is now reading.

We also really enjoy reading Usborne books at bedtime; my daughter’s favourites are anything by Jenny Pearson, the Overthinkers Club and we enjoyed The Train To Impossible Places.

As for me, my favourite books have got to be our amazing Young Adult Fiction books. I’ve been running and building my ladies book club over the past 5 years, and these books have kept my love for reading growing. The books are a great escape and also current with the world and what teenagers experience. My favourite so far has been Circle of Liars and anything by Holly Bourne. I’ve also had a team member join through the book club as she loves the books too.’’

We love hearing from our prize winners about their bookselling business and what motivates them to aim for our incentives.

Gaynor Jones (Ravenhill Readers) was one of our overall winners of the 250 Club last year and was invited to attend a celebratory day out in Oxford earlier this year as a reward. 🤩

Here's what Gaynor Jones said after being picked as a monthly wheelspin winner for the 300 Club in July...

"I was thrilled to receive my goody bag! The 300 Club has definitely given me more incentive to achieve the sales every month. I enjoyed the afternoon tea in Oxford so much, I want to be eligible for winning it again!"

The 300 Club is all about consistent sales. So when it comes to top tips, Gaynor said: "Know your books! If you can talk to customers with first-hand experience of using and enjoying the books with your children, then you will come across as more trustworthy, and don't forget to smile!" 😊

Gaynor has proudly totted up more than 20 years as an Independent Usborne Partner at different stages of her life. She explained: "I decided to become an Independent Usborne Partner as it offered the flexibility of working from home when I had a young family. I've enjoyed it so much, that I've joined the company three times now. When my life took different directions over the past 37 years, Usborne has flexed and fitted around my other commitments perfectly each time! 🙌

One of the best things about being a Partner is the friendships I have built up with like-minded people all over the country. We regularly chat on online groups about Usborne and other things, so when we meet up at events, it really is like an extended family." 💛

We're super proud of the difference our Independent Usborne Partners make to reading and literacy in their communities.

As part of the National Year of Reading, we asked Partner Rebecca Beckett (Bex's Book Nook) to share her best books for babies and toddlers and some simple tips for reading with them.
