I didn’t set out to become a knitting teacher. For me, it happened almost accidentally.

It was more of a response to people looking for help than a calling.

But somewhere over the last few years, I worked through my imposter syndrome around calling myself a “teacher” and realized something: I really enjoy it.

And I’ve come to believe that sharing what we know is one of the most important ways we can keep the craft alive and growing.

You know those leftover balls of yarn you hold onto. The ones you tell yourself that you’ll use them ‘one day’?

We had plenty of those hanging around the studio.

So we’ve finally decided to put them to use, experimenting with our Emma Sweater.

Cutting the tether to Third Piece has been complicated.

There’s a lot of legal and administrative things that come along with shutting down a business. You can’t just decide to close and walk away. It’s a process that for me has taken years to cut cords from.

That leaves me asking…What can I do with this work now?

The hardest part of closing the store was losing the people who filled it. The team, the customers, the regulars and the energy that made it feel like so much more than a store.
