Bluestone Tree is a tree removal company - but that's not where our work stops.

Every tree we remove is then taken to our mulch yard where it eventually becomes premium, organic, locally-sourced mulch.

Had to do another mulch plug. It's the season for it, after all!

Available for bulk order, quick pickup, and delivery in Bloomington and Ellettsville.

Okay - more cool tree work photos and videos to come! I know that's what you're here for.

At what point does a tree need to be removed?

Before it does damage to someone's property - their home, their vehicle, their self!

Does a tree have to fall?

Not always. There are preventative steps you can take to help ensure the trees on your property stay healthy and strong for as long as possible.

I'll go ahead and make this one a shameless self-plug for our Tree Health Care program.

We have an entire team of tree nerds (ISA Certified Arborists) poised and ready to help you provide proactive care to protect the long-term health and stability of the trees you care about.

Okay - just needed to mention that since it's been a while.

Carry on.

Can you see what the problem is, in this photo?

Best joke in the comments gets the most... uhhh... the most likes, I guess?

Seriously now, you can see the damage this tree suffered. An entire branch ripped off.

Now, why's that a big deal?

You might be inclined to think nothing of it. Leaves fall, branches fall, acorns fall - a lot of things fall. What's the problem?

That tear is an open wound.

Now the tree is even more susceptible to disease, pests, and decay. Just like with other living things, trees prefer to keep their insides inside.

Once a tree suffers a major break like this, it is likely a death sentence.

In urban areas, or near someone's home, it's obvious why we need to remove the tree since it is now a hazard.

Trees, just like anything else, prefer not to lose a limb.

We have a lot of equipment, but there's one tool that often goes overlooked that might be the most important in our entire kit. Can you guess what it is? It's in this photo.

We have a heavy duty machines, grapplesaw cranes, boom cranes, buckets, chainsaws, trucks, mulchers, and a bunch of other things that require specific training and a CDL to operate.

So, what's this overshadowed, humble, but entirely essential piece of equipment?

The humble but mighty rope (or straps - let's just say their the same for the sake of this post, cool?).

Yeah, rope.

Ropes are essential to nearly every single job. Without it we can't direct a fall, lift out a tree, carry equipment, make sure our climbers are safe.

From the outside looking in, ropes (but also straps!) might be the unsung hero of a lot of the things we do. It's cool seeing big, flashy, noise equipment doing big, flashy, noisy work. But without a proper line, a correctly tied knot, or a securely harnessed climber, the big jobs, the cool jobs, the hard-to-reach jobs, just wouldn't be possible.

The next time you see a crane the size of a dinosaur flying a tree over someone's house - just know that it's only possible thanks to ropes (and straps!).

It's Thursday, and while didn't intend for it to be a throwback post, we are really proud of the job we did last year for Bloomington Courthouse.

I'll just keep it at that. Nice and simple today.

Trees don't fall over for no reason.

Okay, that's painfully obvious, but what I want to get at is that when a tree gets pushed over by the wind from a particularly nasty storm, it's not just the wind's fault the tree yielded.

There's usually a (are you ready for this?) there is usually a ROOT cause... oh boy. Let's slide right past this.

Shallow root system, root rot and disease, soil erosion. There's usually a pre-existing issue that's weakened your tree to the point it yields.

Okay - so what's the point?

The point is, these sometimes hidden, unobvious issues can be mitigated if not altogether prevented with the proper tree care. The trees on your property don't want to fall just as much as we don't want them to fall. And we can actually do something to make that happen.

It starts with being cognizant of the trees on your property and getting educated on the various issues that trees encounter which cause them to weaken and, eventually, to fall.
