Oyster’s October 5-10, 2026 bamboo fly rod making class brought back 6 repeats & 4 new students…and a new induction into OYSTER’S 10 CLASS CLUB!

🎉Slayyyyyyyton, from Conway, AR, was here for his 10th class! His favorite rod is the 8’ 9wt saltwater rod he built in his 7th class. For #10, he chose a 7’6” 4wt. Congrats, Slaton!

🤯John was back for his 37th class! His favorite rod to fish is his 8’ 7wt with a fighting butt, & his favorite hand engraved bamboo rod is his Cosmic rod. This time he built an 8’ 6wt as a gift for a very special person.🏎️

❤️Hart splits his time between Seattle, WA & Kennesaw, GA. He joined us for his 15th class! His best rod is the 8’ 4wt 50th wedding anniversary rod with the initials of his kids and grandkids. He brought a friend…👇🏽

🏙️Robert, also from Seattle, built his first bamboo rod, an 8’ 6wt for trout on the Yakima River. Thanks for making the trip, Robert, & for bringing Ruth!

1️⃣1️⃣Randy from Roswell, GA was back for his 11th class. His favorite rod he’s made is a 7’9” 6wt. He says his favorite to fish is an 8’ 7wt made for his wife, Barbara.

🎶Duncan joined us from Nashville, TN & took his 1st rod-making class. He built a 7’6” 5wt for dry fly fishing. Matching the hatch with flies he tied & fly rod he built by hand was his ultimate goal.

🍑Ken was here from Augusta, GA & attended his 1st bamboo fly rod making class. The class was a gift from his wife. He built a 7’6” 5wt & will fly fish wherever it takes him.

5️⃣Jimmy was here for his 5th rod making class. His favorite rod is always the next one he will build. His favorite bamboo rod to fish is his second, which caught a fish on the first cast.

✅Dave from Cu***ng, GA took his 1st Oyster rod making class. It has been on his bucket list for years. He built a 7’6” 4wt for fly fishing local Georgia waters.

3️⃣Philip from Texas was back for his 3rd class. Slaton convinced him to sign up for his first, & he came to celebrate Slaton’s 10th. His favorite is his first rod, an 8’ 6wt.

Oyster’s September 21–26, 2026 bamboo fly rod making class brought another full house: 3 repeat makers & 7 new students!

We asked: if you could bring anyone to class, WHO would it be?

9️⃣Rick, from Michigan, returned for his 9th class. He said he would bring his son. This time, he made a 7’9” 5wt for his college roommate of 53 years. Rick says it’s one of the best weeks of his year.

8️⃣Steve, from CA, returned for his 8th class. He said he would bring his son, calling him, “one hell of a fisherman.” Steve built an 8’ 6wt. We can’t wait to see what he builds for his 10th class in 2027!

8️⃣Bert, from Fayetteville, GA, was here for his 8th class & built an 8’ 5wt as a gift for a friend. He’d bring his father, who would’ve been the first one in class each day & the last out.🥺 See you soon!

🐂Joel, from Dallas, TX, attended his 1st class & brought Amy. He said he would bring Robert Redford to narrate while he built his rod.😭 Joel built an 8’ 7wt for large bass & trout in TX.

🌊Amy, also from TX, joined us for her 1st bamboo rod-making class. She’s fly fished for 6 years, mostly saltwater in Belize. She crafted a 7’6” 5wt to fly fish in central Texas.

🏛️Vern, from Virginia, joined us for his 1st bamboo fly rod class. Vern calls himself a novice fly fisherman & enjoys making things by hand, he built an 8’ 5wt for Virginia trout.

📍Joe, a North GA local, was gifted his 1st fly rod-making class. He wanted a “weapon” for the Noontootla & Cartecay Rivers, so he made a 7’6” 5wt. He said he would bring his stepfather, who taught him to fly fish.

🏞️Jim, from Cu***ng, GA, joined us for his 1st Oyster rod-making class. He built a 7’9” 5wt for North GA & Western NC. He’d bring his 89-year-old father.❤️

🏙️Mike, from San Diego, CA, attended his 1st Oyster class & brought his son, Matt. He made an 8’ 6wt for Northern CA & plans to bring each of his sons to a class.

🏔️Matt, Mike’s son from CO, joined us for his 1st bamboo rod-making class. He enjoys working with his hands & chose the versatile 8’ 6wt for Colorado rivers.
