🚨 PSA: I’M ACTUALLY CLOSING FOR A DAY. 🚨

I know. Shocking. 😂

For the first time since opening, For the Plot will be CLOSED tomorrow for Labor Day! 💗

So consider this your official reminder to come grab your books TODAY before 5 PM because nobody should be stuck without something good to read while you:

🌭 heat up some hot dogs
☀️ soak up the last bits of summer
🍹 sip something cold
💦 float around in a pool
📖 and ignore everyone because you're at a really good part

We're here until 5 PM today, so come stock up before I do something completely unprecedented and take a day off. 😂

🖤 DARK ROMANCE BOOK CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT 🖤

October’s pick is Bad Bishop and I have a feeling we’re going to have a LOT to discuss with this one. 👀📖

🖤 Thursday, October 8th
⏰ 6:30–8:00 PM
📍 For the Plot
🔞 21+ only

Here’s how registration works:

Registration is not confirmed until your $5 reservation deposit is paid. After registering, you’ll receive a text from me with either your payment link or notification that you’ve been placed on the waitlist.

Once your payment link is sent, you’ll have 24 hours to pay the $5 deposit. If it isn’t paid within that window, the spot will be offered to the next person on the waitlist.

The $5 deposit is non-refundable, BUT as long as you attend book club, you’ll receive the full $5 back as a For the Plot gift card within 24 hours after book club. Basically, show up and talk about questionable fictional men with us, and you get your $5 back to spend on more questionable fictional men. 😂🖤

And because you guys have been filling these clubs FAST:
If we get enough people on the waitlist, I’ll open a second night on Wednesday, October 7th from 6:30–8:00 PM.

⚠️ Spots are intentionally limited so everyone actually has a chance to participate in the discussion.

I think it’s a good time for a reminder that when we say “shop small,” it isn’t just a cute phrase.
Small businesses are owned by your neighbors. Your friends. The people you see at school pickup, at the grocery store, at community events and walking down the street.
When you spend $20 at a locally owned business, you’re helping someone make payroll. Pay rent. Order more inventory. Keep their doors open. Employ someone from our community. And hopefully stick around long enough to become one of those places we’d all be heartbroken to lose.
And supporting small doesn’t always have to mean spending money. Share their post! Leave a review! Tell a friend about a place you love. Attend their event. Comment on their social media. Those things matter more than you probably realize.
We have some genuinely wonderful locally owned businesses in Cape Girardeau, and I want to see more of them, not less.
So grab a coffee. Buy the book (😉). Eat at the local restaurant. Wander into the shop you’ve walked past 20 times but never visited. Tell your friends when you find a new place you love!
Because if we want a thriving downtown and a thriving local business community, we have to actually use it.
Shop small. Eat local. Support your neighbors. Keep Cape interesting. 💕
And yes, the shirt is available at For the Plot. 😉

📚 SEPTEMBER BOOK CLUB REGISTRATION IS OPEN! 🍂⛈️

Our next For the Plot Book Club pick is *In Stormy Weather* by Chelsea Curto!*💕

📅 **Tuesday, September 29**
⏰ **6:30–8:00 PM**
📍 **For the Plot**
🔞 **21+ only**

I changed my method to try and keep things as error free as possible. We'll see how this goes. Regardless, thanks for being patient with me. You guys are my guinea pigs working through trial and error and I appreciate it.
Here’s how registration will work this time:

💕 Fill out the registration form to request your spot.

💕 The first 15 people will receive a link to pay the $5 reservation deposit.

💕 Once you receive your payment link, you'll have 24 hours to pay. If payment isn't received within 24 hours, your spot will be offered to the next person on the waitlist.

💕 The $5 deposit is non-refundable, but if you attend book club, you'll receive it back as a $5 For the Plot gift card!

Why 21+? 🍷
I'm currently working on getting my liquor license so that we can hopefully offer a small selection of alcoholic beverages during book club. Think White Claw, ciders, w**e, etc. Alcohol will, of course, be completely optional, but because it may be available, this event will be limited to guests 21 and older.

What if it fills up?
JOIN THE WAITLIST! Seriously. If we have enough interest, I'll open a second book club night on Wednesday, September 30 from 6:30–8:00 PM. So don't let a full first session stop you from registering!

📖 Book Club Pick: In Stormy Weather by Chelsea Curto
Registered book club attendees can purchase the book from For the Plot for 15% off MSRP.

I'm really excited to try this new registration system. It should keep our groups small enough that everyone can actually participate in the discussion while still giving us the option to add another night when there's enough interest. 💕

Another update: ill be announcing September 29ths book and opening registration this coming Saturday.

Book Club Update! 📚💗

Okay, friends, our very first book club got a *little* more love than anticipated. 😂 We originally planned to cap the group at 16, but due to a hiccup with our registration system, we ended up with a much bigger group. Long story short, I thought I had figured out how to do sign ups, I maybe F-ed it up, idk, I'm still learning.

While I *can* make everyone fit at For the Plot on September 22, I don't want our first book club to feel cramped, and more importantly, I want everyone to actually have the opportunity to participate in the discussion.

So I wanted to see what you would prefer!

Option 1: Keep everyone together for one big book club on September 22.

Option 2: Split into two smaller book club nights, with roughly half the group attending each night. This would give us more room and make it easier for everyone to join in on the conversation. Second night would be Wednesday September 23, 630-8pm

No one who registered for September 22 would be required to switch nights. We'd only split the group if enough people are interested in volunteering for the second date.

If you're registered, please let us know in the comments which you'd prefer:

📚 ONE NIGHT- Keep the whole gang together
💕 TWO NIGHTS- I'd prefer a smaller group
🙋‍♀️ FLEXIBLE- I'm happy with either!

Once we see what everyone prefers, we'll get the details finalized with plenty of time before book club.

And honestly... having *too many* people excited about our first book club is a pretty wonderful problem to have. 🥹📚

Happy National Dog Day from the For the Plot bookstore dogs 🐾📚💕
Okay…future bookstore dogs. 😂
Percy, Bingo, and Pugsley are very excited for their jobs.
They haven’t been able to spend much time at the store just yet because apparently "pug loose in a bookstore” is frowned upon until I get the baby gates installed. Minor logistical issue.
But once we’re properly pug-proofed, you’ll definitely be seeing more of these faces around For the Plot. 💗
Until then, please enjoy the pups behind the bookstore, and wish them a very Happy National Dog Day! 🐶📖

At my core, I’m a reader. 📚💕

And one of my absolute FAVORITE things to hear in the store is:

“I’ve never seen this in a store before."
"I didn’t even know you could get this in print!”

THAT. That’s what I want For the Plot to be.

Of course I’m going to carry the big titles. You’ll find Acotar on my shelves. You’ll find the books everyone is talking about and the authors you already know and love.

But you’re also going to find indies. You’re going to find books you’ve only ever seen on Kindle. Authors you’ve heard about on tiktok at 1 a.m. Books you didn’t even know existed until you picked one up off my shelf.

I don’t want to stock a bookstore based solely on what’s already sitting on every big-box shelf.

I want you to walk in looking for a book you already know you want, and walk out with another one you’d never heard of.

Because before I was a bookstore owner, I was a romance reader.

And at my core, I still am. 💗

Come for the books you already love. Find the books you’ve never seen on a shelf before.
