November is here, and it feels a little "calm before the storm" as we approach the holiday season sooner than I'm ready for.

This week's hours remain the same as October: open 11-5, Monday-Saturday.

Due to some cement work on our porch steps, we'll be closed this coming Sunday and Monday, November 8-9.

Many of you commented on our landscaping and beds this spring and summer. After a long and crushing winter that nearly took out our decade-old grape plant, Northern Roots U.P. helped us whip all of our beds back into shape, and continued to check on the beds to make sure the new annuals she planted made it through the summer.

Most critical to me, however, was the work Andie did with our grapes. I get pretty emotional about my trees and plants, and was devastated when the grape arbor collapsed under heavy snow in the winter, leaving a wonderfully productive and beautiful, mature Concord grape plant in a tangled, broken mess of vines on the ground.

The grape arbor had become a focal point of the Applecore property that many of you loved and talked about, especially when the grapes were developing and ripening, or when you were surprised by a grouse or two feasting on the grapes in late fall. A few of us harvested its grapes to make the most delicious juice and jam. Birds nested on the arbor, and butterflies and dragonflies rested the grape leaves most of the year.

Andie untangled the mess of grape vines and extracted it from the old, broken arbor, pruned the plant dramatically as needed, put up the new arbor, and wove the remaining grape vines into the new arbor. I didn't know what to expect, but I'm happy to report that the grape took off and grew all summer, and even produced a few grapes. I now have hope that we'll have a few more grapes next year, and hopefully, eventually, we'll see that arbor full of grapes again.

Happy Friday, and almost Halloween! If you're feeling a little bit spooky, we have some goods to match your spirit! I've really been enjoying the Sleepy Hollow perfume rollerball by Emerald Essence Herbals this season! Reminiscent of the darker nights of late fall, it has a really nice and warm spicy scent that I love wearing!

We're open all day today and Saturday, with our normal hours: 11 am - 5 pm both days. And, we're giving out treats for people and pets both days as well, because we know you've got a lot to do on Halloween Saturday. 🎃

We're expanding our annual tradition of treating the tricksters to 2 DAYS!! Friday, October 30 & Saturday, October 31, come on over to Applecore to grab treats for you and (NEW THIS YEAR) your dogs!

We can't promise that our treats won't be a little bit healthy, but delicious. And, a wizard may or may not be passing them out on Saturday.

Treats will be available all day, both days, from 11 am to 5 pm. Hope to see you boos and ghouls out there, somewhere this weekend!
