Building community through the love of reading since 2024. Restoried Bookshop is a bookseller in Chicago's Albany Park neighborhood that seeks to expand access to underrepresented narratives, diversify reading lists, and create connection and joy for readers across a range of ages and genres through books focused AANHPIs and other communities of color. Our mission is to build a more interconnected and empowered community –rooted in history, embracing creativity, and dedicated to solidarity– by amplifying the stories of Asian Americans and other communities of color through the love of reading.

We’ve got some planned medical appointments taking up our day today. We can’t be at the shop to share the bookish love- but we’re using some time to catch up and we’ll be back open tomorrow! Come by Friday the 16th to catch up and pick up something new to read!

Happy Banned Books Week, friends!

It’s our favorite time of year to remind you that a large amount of what we carry in-store and our raison d’être is probably on one of those lists somewhere. We’re working to make sure that our communities have access to our stories and to those of other communities, and that’s pretty f’in great. So stop by and pick up a new book that would make the administration mad.

I’m also kinda amazed I haven’t lost that red button over the years and all the moves.

We’ve also got our Asian American 101 Book Club tonight at 7! Let’s get into chapters 3 & 4 of The Latinos of Asia. Bonus points for a book club talking about identity during Banned Books Week.

We will be closed tomorrow (Weds 10/7) so I can talk about immigration policy, thanks to a friend’s invite 🤓

We’ll be back with more books on Thursday and can’t wait to see y’all when you get here!

It’s already Election Season!

Voting is an important tool, and sometimes it helps to have a thoroughly researched support when you get to that marathon of judges down ballot. Thanks to Injustice Watch for their work putting this guide together 👏👏 and thanks to whoever suggested us as a place to pick up a physical copy💛

Happy Filipino American History Month, friends!

Am I a day late to the start? Yes.
Do we keep our shelves stocked with FilAm authors year-round? Also and emphatically- YES!

Just a sample from our Southeast Asian American shelf to preview. We also have Filipinx folks repping in our YA, Middle Grade, and Children’s sections- but you’ll have to come by in-person for those. Stop in this week to pick up something new (or something you’ve been telling yourself you’ll get to someday) to read and celebrate the month! Filipino American communities have deep roots in Albany Park and we’re here to celebrate those stories (and also glad to share restaurant recs if you’re looking to level-up the experience) 🤓

Get ready with me as we drop some new titles for y’all this week! Lots of great new stuff on the shelves for any mood you’re looking for and we’ve got a bunch of events coming as well! Stay tuned for an events update (hopefully today).

We’ve been a little overwhelmed the past few weeks, seriously, and keeping up with all the different message channels we have kinda flooded my system. We’re working to dig back out, I promise.

Come through and pick up a book with us today, stay for The Wisdoms & Visions of Zines with City Bureau (6PM - 8PM). Come through tomorrow at 6:30pm for our Hey Neighbor Book Club to talk about Back for Blood: Never Whistle at Night Part II. Save time on Friday for a special community storytelling event here at the shop where we’re inviting you to share your stories and memories of Albany Park starting at 6:30pm. All that with Banned Books Week around the corner- sheesh!

What a day to come scoop some new books 😎

Looking for something to help unpack the dystopia that is 2026? Maybe a debut multigenerational exploration of the horrors of occupation? Perhaps a memoir written by everyone’s favorite Goonie?

Our friends from Friendster! A Comedy Showcase are bringing back a night of comedy here at the shop tonight! We’re excited to open our doors for a chance to laugh together and soothe that case of 2026 we’ve been feeling.

Tonight, September 24 (Thursday)
Doors open at 7pm.
Suggested donation of $10 helps pay the comics gracious enough to share space with us.

And yes, you are totally welcome to buy books before or after the event- we’re not going to stop you 🤓

Hey friends,

If any of you have been curious to try Dungeons & Dragons, but haven’t had a chance or knew where to start (like us), we’ve got a little something special lined up to help. Thanks to a friend and neighbor who has offered to share their time and talent with us by curating a brief intro adventure for those curious to build community and give D&D a try!

Sunday, September 20th
1st session starts at 1pm
2nd session starts at 2pm

Each will each take about 30-45 min. There is space for up to six participants per session. The sessions are the same, so plan to join only one. We’ll be learning by playing- no previous experience necessary! You can join solo or bring a friend or two- mixing and meeting new folks is part of the magic 🤓

If you want to be one of the 12 lucky folks who get a chance to play, come through early and sign up in person at the shop. Games will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
