STIL Humboldt's finest gift shop, skate shop, and culture store featuring glass blown on site. Stuff That I Like is an idea born right here in Humboldt County.

Behind the Midway theater around the early 90's to be specific. Then in 1998 Jason started blowing glass in the rear of Primal Decor. With his partner, Jennifer, the races were on; selling glass on the road, in a display case at Primal and national conventions. In 2001 we moved down to Broadway. Now 23 years, a few burns and a pandemic later we present to you a whole selection of stuff that I like, and I know you will like it too.

On the walk between the Herrick park n ride and the waterfront trail there are a few sprawling rose bushes mixed in with the berries, honeysuckle and other plants- some native, some introduced. This wild growing rose made it back to the bud-vase I have on my desk. I'm not savvy on rose id's but this fits the specs for Rosa laevigata which is an introduced species to this area.

Having fun capturing the small scale predator and prey relationship between these plants and the insects they eat. Most of the pics are focusing on the glistening traps. On the butterworts, which are the succulent like plants, the glands attract small gnats and fruit flies trapping them like flypaper to then be digested. The lips of the leaves even curl up so no digestive juices drip away. The pitcher plant in the third image has developed some large nectar drops along the rim to lure in flying insects.
