We are deeply saddened by the loss of the wonderful Sue Zelickson. She filled every room with fun and brightened every life she touched. Sue was our mentor, our biggest cheerleader, and a deeply cherished friend who stood by us with unwavering support. I would have crossed oceans for her if she asked. We owe so much of who we are to her endless support and her legacy will live on in our hearts.

Today, we join the Minnesota food and hospitality community in mourning the loss of our beloved friend and founder, Sue Zelickson.

In 1993, Sue founded Women Who Really Cook with a simple but powerful vision: to bring women in the food and hospitality industry together to build meaningful relationships, support one another, and foster community. More than 30 years later, that vision continues to thrive because of the foundation she created.

Sue was a mentor, connector, champion, and friend to generations of women. She had an extraordinary gift for making people feel seen, welcomed, and valued. Through every introduction, every conversation, and every encouragement to take a chance, she helped shape careers, friendships, and a stronger food community throughout Minnesota.

Women Who Really Cook is one of Sue’s greatest legacies. Every friendship formed, every mentor found, every business connection made, and every new member welcomed reflects the community she envisioned more than three decades ago.

We are deeply grateful that we had the privilege of knowing Sue and that we get to carry forward the organization she so lovingly built. The greatest way we can honor her legacy is by continuing to welcome others, build meaningful connections, support one another, and strengthen Minnesota’s food and hospitality community - just as Sue taught us.

If Sue touched your life, we invite you to share your favorite story or memory. Let’s celebrate the incredible life and legacy of a woman who changed so many of ours.

With love and gratitude,

The Women Who Really Cook Board of Directors
