Anyone for tea? The Moon Garden at the Mitchell House is the perfect setting for slow summer mornings, late afternoon high teas, or a dinner under the stars. The Mitchell House on Upper Main Street was once called home by whale oil merchants. Behind the stately home lies an unexpected hidden garden, designed by Laura Davison of Sean O’Calllaghan Landscaping. This sequestered shady area is a quiet oasis right in the heart of downtown. Here, Nantucket Looms set the table for brunch, including a painted earthenware mug by Nantucket artist Jeanne Van Etten (Jeannevanetten) and faux bois pot and mugs for serving tea. This intimate outdoor space is featured in our book Nantucket Looms: A Legacy of Style with Linda Jane Holden.

September on Nantucket is when one season begins to give way to another. You can hear the first rustle of leaves while the warm sun still invites us to the beach. The summer crowds have largely departed, and the island settles into a quieter rhythm. We’re still here, welcoming the change of season and filling the shop with new pieces that reflect the colors, textures, and warmth of early fall.

Our towels recently had a moment in Elin Hilderbrand’s The Five Star Weekend on Peacock. We included them in our gift baskets because we find they’re the essential you never knew you needed. So soft yet highly absorbent and printed with the island. It’s both a summer essential and an island keepsake.
