Rizzoli Bookstore and the MFA of Illustration as Visual Essay Program at the School of Visual Arts are thrilled to partner with the Italian Cultural Institute to host Felicita Sala and Mac Barnett for an intimate conversation moderated by IlariaTontardini (Hamelin), as a part of the Zig Zag Illustrations Festival, NYC, June 8 - 12, 2026.

This is part of a five-day program, curated by Hamelin and Steven Guarnaccia in collaboration with the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, where some of the best Italian and American illustrators gather in NYC for a visual dialogue uniting both sides of the Atlantic.

The conversation will be followed by a presentation of La Porta Segreta / Make Believe: On Telling Stories to Children with Mac Barnett, Giulia Rizzo (Terre di Mezzo), and Sally Kim (Little Brown and Company) alongside a book signing.

On the occasion of ZIG ZAG Color Me Italian, catch our window display by Brooklyn-based cartoonist and illustrator Alison Spring, on view June 5–11, 2026. Drawing from her experiences as a transnational Chinese-American adoptee, Spring’s work explores identity, belonging, and cultural exchange. Created for the festival, her installation depicts playful movement, dialogue, and imagination across Italian and American landscapes.

Today we celebrate June 2nd, Italy’s Republic Day.
It marks the day when Italians and, for the very first time, Italian women, were able to vote and choose the future of their country, embracing democracy and the Republic.
That historic moment was achieved through years of sacrifice, hardship, and courage. It opened the door to decades of freedom, civic participation, and progress.
Many books tell the stories of the women and men who fought to make June 2, 1946 possible. Today is the perfect opportunity to rediscover those stories and honor their legacy.
Happy Republic Day! 🇮🇹

One needs only to step outside to see the signs of summer everywhere. The parks are full, the tables lining the streets are boisterous once again, and someone somewhere is finally lying in the grass with a new favorite book: something messy and full of longing, or quietly devastating, or strange and funny in a way they didn’t see coming.

Here are some books to keep on hand during the long summer afternoons ahead:
- Sunburn / Chloe Michelle Howarth
- Run for the Hills / Kevin Wilson
- Before I Knew I Loved You / Toshikazu Kawaguchi
- Glyph / Ali Smith
- Good News / Alexa Yasemin Brahme
- Canon / Paige Lewis

Six books. One for every kind of summer you’re having.
See you at the park. ☀️

A special evening with author and stand-up comedian to celebrate his book, I malviventi, a tale of humor, suspense, and the grotesque.

Join us for a conversation with Francesco De Carlo to celebrate his book, which blends dark humor with suspense, where everything spirals into the grotesque and the line between victims and culprits grows thin. He will be in conversation with journalist and writer , followed by a signing.
