The KAPLAN BREHM blank (the weight, distribution of mass, and outer shape of the mouthpiece) was developed through a quite involved data collection and testing exercise where we compared the same inside mouthpiece geometry (rim, cup, bore) on very many *slightly* different mouthpiece blanks, with small amounts of weight added or subtracted from various outer features of the blank. After having professional trumpeters from all backgrounds test and compare our many test blanks, we came up with the one pictured - the distinctive KAPLAN BREHM mouthpiece blank. Our mouthpieces in our blank lands right in the same weight category as a Bach or a Reeves, while adjusting the distribution of that mass to keep the acoustic feedback levels of those classic mouthpieces, while offering a comparatively easier to use interface for slotting/pitch control.
