In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since.

Please withhold your judgement as I share his counsel.

"There's not much that's more summery than a gin and tonic in a great used bookstore on a hot summer evening," he said, "just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had being in Pittsburgh, and when the opportunity to peruse an amazing used book and record store, surrounded by beautiful, soulful booklovers and an abundance of great tomes and tunes, with a cold gin and tonic or a beer in your hand comes about, you must seize it, son."

The Great Pittsburgh Book Crawl provides a passport (literally) to third spaces outside of the bar scene, turning bookstores into places to enjoy physical media and the company of others.

📚 The 2026 Great Pittsburgh Book Crawl is happening next month! From Saturday, July 18th to Sunday, July 26th, celebrate some of the amazing independent bookstores in the Pittsburgh Region!

All of the 30 participating bookstores will have free passport books available for participants to collect stamps from all the stores they visit. Participants who collect at least 15 stamps will be entered to win a prize.
