In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since.
Please withhold your judgement as I share his counsel.
"There's not much that's more summery than a gin and tonic in a great used bookstore on a hot summer evening," he said, "just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had being in Pittsburgh, and when the opportunity to peruse an amazing used book and record store, surrounded by beautiful, soulful booklovers and an abundance of great tomes and tunes, with a cold gin and tonic or a beer in your hand comes about, you must seize it, son."
"I'm told that on two hot July nights in '26, Thurs the 23rd and Sat the 25th at 5858 Forbes Ave, there'll be free cold beer and sparkling water as well as top-notch icy gin and tonics made with premium locally crafted Lucky Sign Spirits gin, in the final stretch of the legendary The Great Pgh Book Crawl (which will run in 30 bookshops through that Sunday the 26th,) and that this unusual establishment even will give customers a free used book or record, priced up to $10, with every 3 items that they buy, and that, astoundingly, no purchase will be required, although proper identification to imbibe spirits will be necessary. The proprietor may be a bit touched in the head, but you shouldn't shy from taking advantage of his generosity, which is indubitably to your mutual advantage."
Have not a Caraway in the world and come on out.
