On a very early Sunday morning, the Ford location of Chaparral drowses. Soon the lights will come on and the doors will open for the day, but till then the books and the plants keep peaceful company.

Join Chaparral Books Saturday May 23 at 4 PM. (Note: Four pm, not our usual two pm.) We'll be hosting our latest in our "Poets in Conversation" series, welcoming Linda Knowlton Appel and Peg Edera. Their new collaboration "Moon-Marked" ranges over nature, art, the spirt, and the family (they're also cousins!). As always, copies available for purchase and signing, event is free, lotsa parking.

Shani Adia Evans is assistant professor of sociology at Rice University. She received a PhD in sociology and education at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on urban change, urban education, racism, culture, and inequality. She initiated the research for We Belong Here while living in Portland and teaching at Reed College.
