🐢❤️ Happy Reptile Awareness Day from our baby cherry-head red-footed tortoises! ❤️🐢

And OMG… those adorable little squeals?! 😭 My heart is SO full! These tiny babies are too precious!

But what does National Reptile Awareness Day mean to us here at HISSS? 🐍🦎🐢

It means so much more than appreciating how amazing and adorable reptiles are. It means education, conservation, responsibility, and ethical animal keeping.

At HISSS, we believe in ethically sourcing captive-bred animals whenever possible, supporting responsible breeders, and refusing to support the poaching and illegal wildlife trade that threaten wild reptile populations.

Reptiles matter! They play vital roles in our ecosystems by helping regulate prey populations, contributing to food webs, dispersing seeds in some habitats, and maintaining the delicate balance of nature.

Awareness leads to understanding. Understanding inspires conservation. And conservation helps protect the incredible biodiversity we share this planet with.

Our goal is to encourage people to learn about these often misunderstood animals, appreciate their unique needs, and understand the responsibility that comes with keeping them.

Because loving reptiles means more than wanting one of your own. It means respecting where they come from, protecting their wild counterparts, and making informed, ethical choices.

So today, we’re celebrating our tiny squeaky babies and all the incredible reptiles that make our world a little more extraordinary! 🐢🥹
