How do we talk about a national literature when there are literally thousands of languages? India contains so much linguistic diversity (in spite of the BJP effort to homogenize the country’s cultures), that literature has to be translated domestically to reach more readers. I can’t wait to dive into some of this at our next on September 13th. For now, here is just a small sampling of some of the translated lit on the shelf…

In an age where everyone has GPS and street view apps just a tap away on our smartphones, what can a map become? We’ve been growing our collection of creative and useful maps here at the shop. Clever cartographers are reimagining maps for how people want to travel. From the beautiful Herb Lester maps of (pop) cultural history to the practical pocket to the architectural wanderings of Blue Crow Media, there is so much to explore!

Ever since expanding the shop and moving my desk, I get asked if I’m a gift-wrapping station. I’m not, but a big stack of crisply folded, wrapped-up books sure is satisfying.
