Bookends

Bookends Bookends is a general used book store in the Bowl-A-Roll Plaza on Jefferson Road near Winton Road, in Henrietta. I neither buy nor sell textbooks.

While we try to keep a wide range of fiction on hand, from classics old and new, through mystery, romance, horror and sci-fi/fantasy, we also maintain a large variety of non-fiction and poetry. The history and art sections are probably the most extensive of any independent bookstore in Monroe County. Bookends does not buy or sell textbooks.

The thought right now is that I will take a few days-- specifically June 8, 9, & 10-- and close the store in order to clear up a significant portion of the mess which Bookends is today.

I'll keep you (and others) posted.

What a day! No phone, no internet service.

If you called on Friday, I don't know what the phone company told you. I was here all day, and the phone didn't work (even my cell phone apparently received a call but wouldn't ring.

Etc.

A Spectrum guy arrived just before 6:30 and had me fixed in about 5 minutes.

I'll be here tomorrow at 11. My phone should work. My internet should work.

I may get some work done myself!

To anyone who may have come to Bookends before noon on Tuesday, 5/5, I apologize. I had a longish day with the Notorious DMV, but it was almost entirely my fault.

Anyway, I'm on the road legally again.

For a long time, I was a pretty good driver. I don't say that now. Still competent, but not what I'd call "pretty good."

It's pretty much official now, since I taped the sign on the door.

Bookends is now a No-Penny store.

If I'm about to charge you $23.22 at the store ($21.50 + $1.72 tax), and if you're about to pay in cash, then you only owe me $23.20. Leave the pennies at the bottom of your purse or the little thing you've been using for change aside (you will need the dimes, or I'll have to hope that I haven't run out of quarters, but that's a different matter). It's $23.20.

I'm going to drop a penny or two if your total ends in 1 or 2, 6 or 7. On the other hand, if your total ends in 3 or 4 or 8 or 9, it's going to round up to the next higher nickel or dime.

If you're paying with a credit or debit card, though, the pennies stay. I can explain this to YOU, but the credit card machine doesn't understand the concept of the penny. I have to put the exact amount into the machine or it will erupt (and still, zero pennies will change hands).

That's the deal. When I knock over my little change thing, I won't have to spend from 11-14 minutes picking up pennies ever again!

Happy Plant a Flower Day (or "the day Paul dissolved the Beatles" day).

I'm here; the store is open, and I feel quite healthy, thank you. I am probably somewhat weaker than I think, so there's at least a chance that I'll have to close the store a bit early.

Right now, I feel as a normally do at 11:16, and I'm in no hurry to close.

The heat is back!

It's cold in the store.

The heating unit died over the weekend. It's been very sick for years. It's kinda like losing your goldfish.

You knew it had to happen, right?

So far, it seems that even the landlord doesn't know when it'll be replaced (at least, they haven't told me). Someone's got to order a part, right?

Come on over. I'm open, and will remain open every day (except Monday, per the store's hours).

But don't expect it to be much warmer than the outdoors when you get inside.

I'll lower the prices, but not all the way from Fahrenheit to Centigrade.
