Bookends

Bookends Bookends is a general used book store in the Bowl-A-Roll Plaza on Jefferson Road near Winton Road, in Henrietta. I neither buy nor sell textbooks.

While we try to keep a wide range of fiction on hand, from classics old and new, through mystery, romance, horror and sci-fi/fantasy, we also maintain a large variety of non-fiction and poetry. The history and art sections are probably the most extensive of any independent bookstore in Monroe County. Bookends does not buy or sell textbooks.

Well friends, there is at least a time and a place for everything and bookends has pretty much used up its time, at least in this place. It's hard to believe and even harder to accept perhaps, but I'm getting old.

More and more, I'm disappointing myself in the way I'm doing things (and worse, NOT doing things) here.

There's a chance that I'll be here in March, but not much chance that I'll still be here in April. Don't be shocked if I cut back to 5 days a week pretty soon, and perhaps eventually 4, don't be shocked if I cut back an hour or two, even though I enjoy every minute that I'm here (especially the minutes when I'm awake).

For almost every piece of bad news, there's an equal and opposite piece of good news-- in this case, it's that I'll be lowering prices, some sooner, but all eventually.

1. Reminder-- Bookends will be OPEN on Monday, August 17, from 11 AM until 6 PM.

2. During football season this year, Bookends will be OPEN Sundays and an Closed Mondays, as it has been since February.

3. I would like to get away at least one weekend in the relatively short future. Among other issues, my sister is moving from nearly ocean to ocean. I'll do something to help her out. And maybe take a few days for myself, but not all consecutively.

The Book Crawl is on, and it's fun.

The ROC Book Crawl starts on Saturday, August 15 and runs through Sunday, 8/23.

Bookends will be OPEN on Monday the 17th, so Crawlers, don't worry!

I'm having a couple of different "store hours" thoughts.

I WILL be open on Monday, August 17, during Rochester's Book Crawl, for the hours stated on the Crawl Card.

I MAY go away for the whole of Labor Day weekend (undecided).

For the last 2 years, I think, I've changed my hours during football season, and I've been open on Mondays and closed on Sundays from September thru all of January. Again, undecided at the moment, but don't touch that dial. I'll get back to you on these VERY soon.

2-3 weeks ago someone asked if I had a book of the poetry of Robert Herrick, who died in 1674.

I didn't, then.

Now I do. I found a book of the complete poetry of Robert Herrick.

I brought in a bunch of books from storage over the weekend, and several more from here and there.

Alas, not many jumped off the floor and onto the shelves.

There's always more for me to do.

Remember! Bookends will be CLOSED Monday-Wednesday, June 8-10. The floor will be less crazy on Thursday when we all get back.

The thought right now is that I will take a few days-- specifically June 8, 9, & 10-- and close the store in order to clear up a significant portion of the mess which Bookends is today.

What a day! No phone, no internet service.

If you called on Friday, I don't know what the phone company told you. I was here all day, and the phone didn't work (even my cell phone apparently received a call but wouldn't ring.

Etc.

A Spectrum guy arrived just before 6:30 and had me fixed in about 5 minutes.

I'll be here tomorrow at 11. My phone should work. My internet should work.

I may get some work done myself!
