Happy Birthday to Alma Mahler (nee Schindler), an Austrian composer and socialite.

Her life was as complex as her music. She was friends with (and had affairs with) composers, artists, and philosophers that still inhabit the public conscience today. She outlived her husband, Gustav Mahler, by almost half a century. She survived two world wars and the N**i annexation of Austria and was still alive to see "Psycho" in the movie theatre.

Today is Claude Debussy's 164th birthday!

Emory is playing one of Debussy's most famous (and loveliest) melodies, "The Maid with the Flaxen Hair" on the Wultur #6 Cello, which is a shop favorite as well as a customer favorite.

Several people have inquired about this cello, so if you are interested in playing this gorgeous instrument, give it a spin while it's still here!

It happens to the best of us... we're looking for a good price on something and we buy what looks promising and affordable!

A poorly-made instrument (we call them VSOs or "violin-shaped objects" in the string industry) is harmful for a student. They don't sound good and they are difficult to play, so the student is not motivated to keep going.

Our goal is keeping music education affordable and accessible! So bring in your VSO when you start a new rental contract and get $80 in rental credit that goes towards purchase of your correctly-set-up, playable, and nice-sounding student instrument!

Would you rather purchase outright? Get $60 in trade-in credit towards the purchase of an instrument!

We'll take violas and cellos of the same quality, too!

Happy Birthday to Russian composer Alexander Glazunov, who was born on this day in St. Petersburg in 1865.

Ever see a piece of sheet music and say "No thank you"? Glazunov's famous violin concerto is insanely difficult and chromatic, so here's Allison trying and failing to sightread it for your enjoyment.

Allison is playing the a violin made by Amédée Diéudonné, made in France in the 1930s, which is when and where Glazunov died.
