Now available in hardcover..."Sisters Alone" by Shifa Saltagi Safadi!

From the National Book Award–winning author of Kareem Between comes a powerful novel in verse about two sisters trapped in a blizzard in a heart-wrenching story of sisterhood and survival.

Two sisters. One storm. A fight for their lives.

Rama is all fire—fierce, quick to anger, and trying to hold her family together while battling the monster of intrusive thoughts. Leena is all ice—quiet, numbed to the vibrancy of the world, as she silently blames herself for their mother’s death.

When their father must travel for work, a sudden blizzard traps the sisters alone at their rural home. As the storm tears through their house, they’re left without power, without food, without shelter—and with no one to rely on but each other.

Told in powerful, poetic verse, Sisters Alone is a heart-stopping story of sisterhood, survival, and the quiet strength it takes to keep going, even when the world feels like it's falling apart.

Now available in hardcover..."The Pirate Queen" by Ariel Lawhon!

A sweeping historical adventure inspired by the life of Grace O’Malley, the legendary Irish folk heroine who risked everything to defend her people. Venture onto the high seas with the thrilling latest from the New York Times bestselling author of The Frozen River and I Was Anastasia.

Grace O’Malley was born to be a sea captain. But despite her natural skill on the water, Grace learns early that her dreams of a life at the helm are not compatible with the expectations of her noble family. As the only daughter of a powerful chieftain, her role is to secure a strong alliance and bear children. But when she’s sent to foster with a nearby clan, Grace falls for a clever and open-minded second son—a man she cannot have.

Married off against her will to a brutal warrior, Grace performs her duty, all the while gathering followers loyal to her, and consolidating her husband’s power, only to be ousted from his lands. But this betrayal offers Grace the opportunity to return to sea, finally leading clan O’Malley’s mighty fleet. Just as she finds true independence, Queen Elizabeth’s incursions into Ireland grow bolder and Grace must fight to defend her land, her ships, and the people she loves most against the cruel and power-hungry English deputies, who will stop at nothing to check her influence.

Keenly observed and fiercely written, Ariel Lawhon's new action-packed novel channels the untamed beauty and harsh realities of sixteenth-century Ireland, as seen through the eyes of an unforgettable heroine who rightly became “the Pirate Queen of Ireland.”

Looking for a great new read?

Here's Lisa's review of "Meet Me in Paris" by Kristin Harmel:

"Be not inhospitable to strangers lest they be angels in disguise." -George Whitman, founder of the Shakespeare & Co. bookstore in Paris France

As the well-written characters of this book walk the streets of Paris, they each make a connection with a stranger who helps them on their paths. Masterly woven in their stories are themes of sadness, joy, self-discovery, and the complexity of love, friendship, family, and relationships. Beside my love for the relatable individuals in this story, I was totally charmed by the sights, sounds and locations described of the wonderful city of Paris. My desire to visit there one day only grew stronger with each walk I accompanied the characters on. I loved this book!

Now available in hardcover..."Situated: Find the People and Places That Bring Out Your Best" by Angela Duckworth!

From the #1 bestselling author of Grit, a new book that reveals the hidden power of situations and how you can shape them to bring out your best.

In Angela Duckworth’s first book, she showed that a common denominator of successful strivers is a blend of passion and perseverance she dubbed “grit.” This second book springs from her deepening realization that grit, while necessary, is sometimes not sufficient. How you situate yourself to meet a challenge can be crucial.

Duckworth’s in-depth research reveals the enormous influence wielded by the objects within arm’s reach, your peers and mentors, and even your zip code. Though you’re often told to make the best of your situation, it is far, far better to make your situation better first.

In Situated, you’ll discover:
-Why your personality changes, sometimes dramatically, from one situation to another—and how you can harness that shift
-The secret to conquering temptation without willpower
-Why taking the less effortful path can feel like cheating but often solves a stubborn problem
-How the company you keep shapes the person you become
-The most effective ways to help others succeed

Highlighting four essential elements of successful situations, Duckworth shows how high performers like Taylor Swift, Michael Phelps, and Jerry Seinfeld create situations that make it easier to excel. And, with disarming honesty, she shares her own struggles with burnout and marriage—and how learning to change her situation, not herself, made all the difference. Whatever it is you want to achieve, there’s a situation that can make your journey easier.

It takes effort to make your situation your ally—but a little effort goes a long way...when you get situated.
