Looking for a great new read?

Here's Bob's review of "The Last Kings of Hollywood: Coppola, Lucas, Spielberg—and the Battle for the Soul of American Cinema" by Paul Fischer:

An in depth look at the directors who made the 3 highest grossing movies of the golden age of cinema: Godfather, Jaws and Star Wars. The author shows how the old Hollywood system of movie making was undergoing a revolution in the late 60’s, and a new generation of filmmakers was taking control.

Great behind the scenes information on the movies they made and how their careers kept them in each other’s orbit along the way.

Now available in hardcover..."The Hero Next Door: Stories of Patriotism and Purpose" by Martha Raddatz!

An inspiring portrait of the men and women who serve in our nation's military that captures their courage and profound sacrifice, by the Emmy Award–winning ABC News anchor, Martha Raddatz.

For twenty-five years Martha Raddatz has witnessed the grit and resilience of the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines who have been fighting America’s wars since 9/11. What motivates them to do such impossible things? How do they find the courage to put their lives on the line, or the strength to start over when things don’t go as planned?

The Hero Next Door offers a dozen portraits of servicemen and women who are every bit as inspiring as those of the Greatest Generation. Every one of them has shown awe-inspiring strength of character, creativity, and drive, faced daunting odds, and come out stronger.

Take Kevin Shaeffer, a naval officer working at the Pentagon on 9/11, whose life-changing experience on that day fueled his determination to hunt down Osama bin Laden. Or Mark Little, who made it his mission, after an IED blew up his convoy in Iraq, to help veterans rebuild their lives when they were down. Or Josh Webster, who dangled by a rope under enemy fire to rescue a fallen officer in the mountains of Afghanistan. Or Rocco Armonda, a highly skilled surgeon who pioneered a new way of treating traumatic brain injury in Iraq. Or Danielle “Purple” Thiriot and Charles “Wingnut” Wickware, who, once they started flying, knew exactly what their mission was. Or Derek Herrera, who gives new meaning to transformative second acts.

Life can turn on a moment, and who’s to say what we’ll do? That, we learn, is when you spot the real heroes: when no one is watching. “Individually, their stories are deeply inspiring,” Raddatz writes. “Together, they offer something beyond inspiration: insight into what it means to live with a life-defining courage and sense of purpose.”

Now available in hardcover..."A Cozy Summer Day" by Eliza Wheeler!

New York Times bestselling author Eliza Wheeler’s companion to A Cozy Winter Day welcomes readers into sun-dappled scenes of a cozy summer in Acorn Village, bringing the joys of summertime to refreshingly vivid life.

The animals of Acorn Village love spending summer days together. As soon as the sun comes up, they slip into shorts and sunsuits and run outside to enjoy an abundance of cozy activities, whether it’s putting up a playhouse, snacking in the strawberry patch, partaking in a picnic, or napping in a leafy nook. And when the day heats up, who can resist cooling off in a sparkling swimming hole before drying off in a cozy sun-kissed towel. When the sun disappears from the sky, it’s time to gather round the campfire to share stories and marshmallows and fall asleep under the stars.

Eliza Wheeler’s enchanting illustrations capture all the magic of long summer days outside, and readers will feel right at home as they pore over each and every cozy, comforting scene.

Looking for a great new read in paperback?

Here's Michelle's review of "Pictures of You" by Emma Grey:

Amnesia as a plot device always makes me a little wary, but Emma Grey absolutely makes it work here. Evie wakes up in a hospital bed and is told that her husband has died - but she doesn't remember having a husband. She also learns that she's 29 years old (not 16, as she thinks), and that she hasn't spoken to her family and closest friends in years. The mystery behind why her life has brought her to this point is not entirely unpredictable, but Grey does a fantastic job of letting the story unfold in a way that has you eagerly turning pages to learn, along with Evie, just what has happened in her life in the past 14 years.
