Just an inspiring story.

Japanese farmer Toshiyuki Kuroki planted thousands of pink flowers so his wife could enjoy their fragrance after losing her sight. 🌸❤️

Yasuko Kuroki lost her eyesight because of complications from diabetes and became increasingly withdrawn. Her husband spent about two years transforming their dairy farm in Miyazaki into a field of fragrant shibazakura flowers. The garden eventually attracted thousands of visitors, giving Yasuko both the scent of the blooms and renewed social connection.

A non-invasive Golden Vicary privet by Proven Winners!

Privet forms a dense, leafy wall that creates lots of privacy, and clusters of white flowers perfume the air in summer. Golden Ticket® is the first non-invasive privet. High quality, glossy foliage emerges bright yellow and ages to chartreuse.

Very adaptable and easy to grow, this deer-resistant shrub is the smart choice for hedging, screening, and landscaping.
Will do well in dry soil (once established) and part shade, too.

2-gallon for $59 for spring. I'll bring a handful. If you need more than 4-5 for a hedge, please let me know soon and I'll bring some extras.

Fairytrail Bride cascading hydrangea by Proven Winners has received a LOT of attention this year.

It is rated as USDA zone 5, which means winter-hardy on Halifax. However, it blooms on old wood, so unexpected spring frosts may damage the delicate flower buds, even if the plant itself survives the winter. Winter protection is recommended in Halifax.

Wait until the plant is dormant in late November to early December. Mound a heap of leaves and secure them in place by placing branches or boughs, or wrapping in burlap. Open in spring *after* the danger of late frosts has passed.

Proven Winners notes that Fairytrail Bride excels as a hanging basket or container spiller due to its cascading form.

I see it in growers' catalogues. Won't be able to confirm availability until late October. Ballpark price (may change before posting to the website): 69 for a 3-gallon pot OR the same price for a 13" hanging basket. If the demand is high, I might be able to reduce the price.

Cape Breton delivery in May 2027? Please leave your comments. We want to make a trip "if" there is enough interest.

- If we go to Baddeck, is that a good place for everyone to pick up their orders, or is Sydney preferred?
- There will be just one trip per season. Possibly, on a weekday. Likely, in late May.
- Orders can be picked up in one location in Cape Breton. If you can't make it to get your plants during a work day, please send a friend.
- Any plants (small fruit, any perennials, shrubs, small trees, etc) can be delivered except the tallest ones. I don't think we can fit hardy bananas and taller trees in the van. Japanese maples and tree roses can fit, dogwoods and other 5-ft trees yes, redbuds taller than 5 ft: not sure (those branches are not flexible).
- Delivery fee: 100 for an order under $400; 150 for $401-$600, $200 for larger orders.

Please share in gardening groups in Cape Breton.
