Sometimes a traditional gate setup just doesn’t work.

You can usually tell quite quickly when a driveway is going to be awkward for a gate installation.

Not enough runback for a standard slider, not enough room for a swing gate, and the last thing the customer wants is to lose usable space.

Instead of one large gate section needing a full runback, the telescopic design allows the sections to travel together, dramatically reducing the space needed behind the opening.

Another great example of the Locinox Vera in action.

This project used the single-sided Vera in combination with the required SFKU-V receiver, fitted onto a 40mm box section frame.

And these images show exactly why the Vera has become so popular so quickly.

Previously, fitting a coded lock onto a gate like this would often mean cutting into the infill to make everything work — adding installation time and creating potential issues if the lock ever needed replacing or servicing in the future.

Why go battery operated or electrically operated when a traditional mechanical lock works perfectly well?

Today we had a call from a customer who thought their mechanical lock was faulty. We tried to troubleshoot it over the phone, but with the lock still with the property owner, it was difficult to know exactly what was happening.

Once we received the lock back, the problem was immediately obvious. It wasn't a fault with the lock at all. It was a code issue.

This is very common with mechanical code locks. Whether it's Locinox, Borg, Codelocks or Gatemaster, one of the most common reasons we get asked to troubleshoot a lock is because the code has been changed or set incorrectly.

On this occasion, the customer had tried to set the code to 2122. With a mechanical code lock, you can't repeat the same number, so that code simply wasn't possible.

And this is one of the advantages of moving to battery-operated or electrically operated locks.

Illuminated keypads, easier code entry, the ability to use repeated numbers and, depending on the system, multiple programmable codes all offer benefits that traditional mechanical locks can't provide.

Mechanical locks still have their place, but access control technology has moved on significantly. If you're looking for more flexibility, easier use and greater control over who has access, it may be time to look beyond a traditional mechanical code lock.

The right hardware can make a big difference to the finished gate, and there's no better example than this TFS Aluminum Gate.

The Locinox Tiger hinge provides controlled closing while keeping the clean look of the gate intact.

One of the easiest mistakes to make when ordering a gate lock? Choosing the wrong size.

With the Superlock 2.0, the lock needs to suit the width of the box section it’s being fitted to. There are two options available, covering sections from 10–30mm and 40–60mm.

It’s worth checking this before you order rather than discovering the mismatch when the lock is in front of you and the gate is waiting to be finished!

Handing is less of a headache. The Superlock 2.0 can be set up for both left- and right-handed gates, so you have the flexibility to configure it to suit the installation.

Measure the section, choose the right size, and the rest is straightforward.

Staying ahead of manufacturer product changes is one of the easiest ways to avoid problems further down the line.

From changes to the design and drilling patterns on gate closers, to updated power supplies for Electradrop units, we’ve seen installers and fabricators caught out by changes that weren’t known about until they were already on site.

That’s why we think it’s important to keep you informed, not just about the big changes, but also the smaller ones that can make a difference to the fabricator, installer and end user.
