A leaping Redside for your Tuesday entertainment. The trout are opportunistic this time of year. We should be too.

Lower Deschutes report: Naturally, the chubby + dropper rig is working like crazy. The best fishing has been in the type of water the trout would hold in when there isn’t a concentration of food to dictate where they lie. Moderate depth, turbulence, boulders. On the more obvious side of trout water. If you can find a spot that hasn’t been hammered, buckle up! Been seeing more frequent chubby eats too! Streamers have been good. And a select few of the foamy backeddies have been loaded with fish sipping on a mix of caddis and BWO’s, size 16 ish. October caddis bite has been hit and miss for me, but never leave home without ‘em.

Today I’ll have my most productive flies on the Cling Fishing Products counter display.

Tomorrow, Tuesday will be gone and this info may be useless. 😂

With a heavy heart we wrap up our Lower Deschutes summer steelhead season early.

As this year’s return coughs and sputters over Bonneville, I wonder what exactly made these fish suffer so badly. Whatever it is - ocean conditions, interior conditions, sink tips or side planers - I don’t pretend to understand. But I sure hope people don’t lose interest in steelhead and the Lower Deschutes. They need friends.
