We first opened in 1977 as a small neighborhood market. In 1999 we moved into a 40,000 sq. foot renovated former Safeway site at 2020 Oregon St. between Shattuck and Adeline Streets. In June of 2009, our second store, Berkeley Bowl West, opened in a new modern building at 9th & Heinz Ave. (920 Heinz Ave., Berkeley, CA 94710) one block north of Ashby. Berkeley Bowl West has ample free above ground parking and an underground parking garage.

Get in on the deliciousness either way! Tom Cat Bakery has a new artisan Japanese Shokupan (milk bread) that will take you right back to the Family Mart down the way. Make your own egg salad filling with hard boiled eggs, copious amounts of Japanese mayo, add your favorite secret ingredients (ours is a bit of mustard and a dollop of sweet pickle relish - trust the process) and tuck in while thinking of the 20k steps a day you managed to walk before dinner!!

Come shop with us! We’re gonna make Katsu Curry featuring organic pork chops from our meat department. Tender Berkshire pork chops steal the show in a surprisingly easy dish. Curry roux cubes from the Asian department, chunky cut Yukon gold potatoes, carrots, and white onion are the basics. But we hear okra is good, we add mushrooms sometimes too.

Ad it’s true - it tastes so much better the next day!!
