A Pupdate on our forever employee of the month, Emmylou 🐶: we had to take her to the ER vet this week unexpectedly and learned she has a painful spinal injury. We know how much you love seeing her at the shop, but we wanted to let y’all know she’s on strict bed rest for at least 4 weeks and the only place she’ll be for a bit is in her bed at home. Thanks for your understanding if we need to adjust hours on certain days so we can attend to her. - Colin & Michelle xo

What an incredible day! With your help we were able to donate close to $1000 to the Midwest Immigration Bond Fund.

Thank you so much to all who came through to show support! To the amazing performances by Living Thing, D. Jean-Baptiste and Ava Brennan. It was one of the most unforgettable days at Record Breakers in my 18 years at the store. We’re so grateful to be a part of this community. ❤️

On Valentine’s Day, Record Breakers is taking 20% of our sales and donating them to the Midwest Bond Fund. A small gesture in reaction to a broader movement of terror and anguish being felt here in the Midwest and all over the country. As a business with such a vocal and supportive community around us, our hope is that our initiative is informative and encouraging to our friends and customers, and makes a real lasting difference in the life of someone currently in need of dire financial assistance.

The Midwest Immigration Bond Fund is fully volunteer run non-profit organization that was born in 2019 out of a need to reunite families kept apart by financially prohibitive bail.

The MIBF pays out bonds for residents of, and people detained in: Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and as of 2025, Minnesota. They work closely with NIJC, ICIRR, and OCAD, and are part of the National Bail Fund Network, a coalition of likeminded organizations in direct alignment with their mission.

“Our work will only be finished when ICE is abolished, and no one is separated from their families and communities by the cruelty of detention.”

Valentine’s Day at 2935 N. Milwaukee will be a much needed celebration of love, hope, solidarity, and of course— the healing power of music.

I had one of the coolest and most surreal record store moments in June when visited the store. I was introduced to The Soft Boys by my great friend Jim Ryan, may he rest in rock heaven peace. I’ve been a huge fan of all things Robyn Hitchcock since. To have him in the shop supporting the local bands and shopping was very special. In honor of the 45th anniversary deluxe reissue of The Soft Boys’ Underwater Moonlight, throwing it back! It’s such an incredible record and has maybe one of the best opening songs of all time.
