We've got a foursome for your Th*****me Thursday this week, friends. Man look at this monster set- not the complete but only the collected poems of Larry Eigner, who was affiliated with the Black Mountain poets (Olson, Creeley, et al) as well as the language poets, so called. About Eigner, former Rocky Mountain News columnist & 13th Avenue raconteur Duane Davis said, "like Ginsberg, anything he put on paper was worth publishing.

More movie covers for this week's Th*****me Thursday- a nice trio of Robert Redford vehicles, each of these, also, books before they were films. Gatsby is sometimes, even still, considered one of the great American novels. Wish we had a copy of Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid or Jeremiah Johnson- do such books exist? Redford had a real affinity for the West. Besides situating the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, Redford advocated for Native American justice, wilderness preservation, & wild horse protection, to name a few other examples. About the latter, he said, "I believe, as do so many of my fellow Americans, that the wild horse is an irreplaceable national treasure. It would be a tragic mistake to allow this noble creature to disappear from our western landscape.” Google wild horse slaughter if you are interested in how that's going.

What do these 3 movie editions have in common? For one thing, they were all original novels before they were adapted to the screen. Also, all 3 movie versions won best lead actor Oscars for their stars: Gene Hackman, Jack Nicholson, & Shirley MacLaine, respectively. Nicholson actually won a lead Oscar for Cuckoo's Nest & a supporting Oscar for Terms of Endearment. More interesting perhaps is the fact that MacLaine & Debra Winger were both nominated for lead actress Oscars for their incredible turn as mother & daughter. No doubt about it though, Shirley MacLaine steals the show. Have you seen these movies? Have you read these books?

When this Pac-Man puzzle was new in 1982 it cost $2.75. When it sat around Skaggs too long, the price was dropped to $1.49, & it eventually ended up in the bargain basket with a $1 price tag. Today, it sells for $25. Meanwhile, the federal minimum wage had risen by $3.90 in those same 44 years, & the amount of billionaires in the world has gone from 13 to 3428. #1982

Welcome back to another Th*****me Thursday at Kilgore Books! Today we have a nice Indiana Jones novelization trilogy. There are those who say Raiders is the best of the 3, & I can appreciate that sentiment. It is the original after all. And there are others, like myself, who give the nod to the Last Crusade. That Ford/Connery combo is almost too perfect, dont you think? But beware those who say Temple of Doom is best. Those people are trying desperately to be nonconformist, & they simply can't be trusted.

Welcome to another Th*****me Thursday here at Kilgore Books! This week we feature a nice 80s paperback set of C.S. Lewis's Space Trilogy. Elwin Ransom & other characters were given elvin-sounding names in honor of Lewis's buddy J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth mythos, & some say Elwin is modled after Tolkien himself. Unlike the LOR, the Space Trilogy is clear & unabashed Christian allegory, much like Lewis's better known Narnia series.
