The Memphis Guitar Spa is a repair, restoration and custom build shop located in Memphis, TN., and is home to Ferner Fine Instruments. In our repair shop, we deal with all types of instruments including classical, traditional, electric and world. One of our greatest passions is bringing back to life classic musical works of art. I just got a new shipment in of our checkerboard binding. This has become one of the signature things we do that you just don’t see very often. Part of it for sure is the fact that I only know one guy I can get it from in the right format, thickness and length I need. It’s rare. And he doesn’t always have it. But I have a thing for old Rickenbackers, and I don’t see anyone else doing this. If you’ve been thinking of a project, call me to reserve some, I’ve got enough to do about 5 instruments!

There’s a lot of great small builders out there. All around the world. I follow some of them on here, many I’m good friends with, none of us are really any threat to each other, and because of that my industry is very friendly. We all tend to talk shop, refer each other to tools, etc. One thing we all agree on is mother nature’s role in everything. To make beautiful stuff, you have to start with beautiful stuff. This, believe it or not, is rosewood. East Indian to be specific. Is this not gorgeous or what?
