Shane Confectionery Shane Confectionery, America's Oldest Continuously Operating Confectionery (since 1863).

Shane Confectionery is the oldest continuously-run confectionery in the United States, established in 1863. The Shane family took over the business in 1911, installing elaborately carved woodwork, stained glass and curved windows to showcase the chocolates and confections made onsite. Ninety-nine years later, in 2010, the business transitioned to the Berley Brothers who own the nearby Franklin Fou

ntain and whom embarked on a meticulous restoration of the building and business. Candies continue to be made on-site, with an emphasis on locally-sourced ingredients, seasonal specialties and old-fashioned quality. We have been closed for in-person shopping since late March 2020 to protect our co-workers and customers from the spread of COVID-19. Orders can still be placed on our web-store (ShaneCandies.com/Shop) for delivery or pick-up. Since Oct. 2nd, 2020 we've been operating Take-Out window from our shopfront in addition.

Since ancient times, mint has been cultivated for culinary and medicinal uses. 🌱 Garden Mint is another name for Spearmint, originally native to the Mediterranean region. 🏛️ Ancient Greeks and Romans valued mint both for aiding digestion and freshening one's breath. ✨

Lady Helena Modjeska (1840-1909) was a Polish actress who specialised in Shakespearean and tragic roles. 🎭 First successful on the Polish stage, she also succeeded in America and London. 🗽💂Her Debut US production took place in Louisville, Kentucky. 🇺🇸 To honor the occasion, confectioner Anton Busath created marshmallows dipped in caramel. ☁️🍯 Lady Modjeska granted Busath permission to use her name for the candy, and he hung her autographed portrait in his shop. 🖼️
Pillowy and sweet marshmallows covered in chewy caramel, these delicious treats continue to be made in Louisville to this day at Bauer's Candies ! 😋

Dark Chocolate Espresso Beans are a perennial favorite! We coated Herman's Coffee espresso beans in our House Dark Chocolate. This treat is naturally vegan! ☕🍫

During the Civil War coffee was coveted by all soldiers, who ate the bean whole. In the early mid 19th century confectioners started coating candies in chocolate. 🍫 Dark chocolate combined with espresso beans makes for a snack that's sweet, bitter, and a little bit of a pick me up ☕😴
